Populations have been generally low, so fewer adults entered the breeding season, but key pheasant areas of the state are noting good brood sizes and an overall increase in abundance. Even in western Oregon, where few pheasants remain, there was a noticeable improvement in production. Most of Oregon’s pheasant harvest occurs in the Columbia Basin and northern Malheur County.
ODFW stocks pheasants at western Oregon wildlife areas. Season dates for these fee pheasant hunts are Sept. 21-Oct. 9 at Denman (Central Point), Sept. 14-Oct. 11 at Fern Ridge (Eugene), Sept. 21-Oct. 4 at Sauvie Island (Portland) and Oct. 1-31 at EE Wilson Wildlife Area (Monmouth). Hunters need to have a $17 fee pheasant tag to participate. See page 16 of the Game Bird Regulations for more information.
